Welcome To Cinemamas

Cinemamas is a female-led community for mothers working in the screen industries. We started in 2019 as a peer support group for advice and conversation. We champion inclusive working practices such as job sharing and flexible work.

WHAT DO WE DO?

First and foremost, we support industry parents. Whether that’s through advice, connection or simply amplifying the voices of our community. Cinemamas champions inclusive working practices such as job sharing and flexible work.

We have developed and evolved and now offer bespoke services to production companies, studios, and individuals. These include advisory sessions, training, production of resources, support with returning to work, consultancy, and mentoring.

OUR MISSION

It takes a village to raise a child. We want to help create that village within the screen industries! We want to mitigate some of the isolation and loneliness that some new mothers might feel. Our mission is to support the industry to become more inclusive to working parents.

WHO WE ARE

Valeria Bullo, Founder

Valeria Bullo is the creator and founder of Cinemamas and has worked in physical production for over a decade. After becoming a mother in 2018 she was faced with the same issues most parents face in the industry; can I juggle both?.. do I leave the industry?.. will I ever sleep again?

“Cinemamas was born out of my own experience of becoming a mother and often feeling uncertain and unsupported during this difficult transition back to work. After some research, I quickly found there was no information on how to survive as a freelancer or how other parents were doing it. I wanted to job share but I had never heard of anyone doing it in the film industry.”

Aline Harjani, Head Of Operations

Aline Harjani is a film pro with global experience, a passionate advocate for industry parents, empowering careers while fostering family-life balance and sustainable solutions in film and TV.

“I started out Cinemamas to understand if having a family and living off this industry were compatible. Since having my kid in 2021 I am committed to reshaping the narrative for industry parents, bridging the gap between fulfilling careers and family life.”

Coverage and Events

Cinemamas – ‘Build Your Tribe’

On the evening of Thursday 22nd September, we invited our community to come together for an incredible evening of networking, empowerment, and discussions about how to shake up the industry. It was a real celebration of all those amazing industry families who are managing to make flexibility work for them, not allowing the outdated way the industry works to push them out of their chosen career paths.

We had an exceptional panel made of parents and carers:

Sara Johnson - disability consultant and founder of Bridge 06
Terence Madden - Production Supervisor
Cat Proctor - Production Coordinator
Ashleigh Ashley - Creative Producer / Director
Zeb Achonou - Film and TV Editor
Samar Pollitt - Production Executive Warner Bros. Discovery
